Alongside RSCI and the Army Corps of Engineers, team Streimer played a significant role in the overhaul of three major dams on the Snake and Columbia rivers in Oregon and Washington. On this trio of projects, our teams were tasked with the complete structural and fume exhaust/extraction upgrades to the existing repair pits — at the McNary Dam (pictured) on the Columbia River in Oregon, and at the Lower Monumental Dam and Little Goose Dam on the Snake River in Washington.

Our crew installed the permanent exhaust system and upgraded the existing HVAC to incorporate fume extraction. That work included three new exhaust fans, eight levels of ductwork, and installation of fire-dampers and pressure transducers to maintain negative pressure and get the facilities up to code. The Streimer fabrication shop produced all of the heavy-gauge duct and supports.

Seventy-year-old buildings are not designed for modern mechanical systems. That was the unique challenge at Oregon State University's Cordley Hall West, the four-story, 90,000-square-foot facility where we took on the full mechanical scope of the recent renovation. The laboratory spaces inside added to the project's complexity, requiring 100% exhaust and replacement with outside air.

In collaboration with Andersen Construction, Hennebery Eddy Architects, and Systems West Engineers, our team supported the substantial 3D modeling early in the project to ensure the new systems aligned with the programming of the lab use. The end solutions included a four-pipe hydronic system using active chilled beams and radiant panels as well as a heat recovery chiller, while integrating with the campus District Utility Plant's chilled water and heat exchangers.

Named for its unique ability to hold up against a major earthquake, the Oregon Treasury Resiliency Building was designed and constructed to help keep portions of the local government up and running during a state emergency. The new two-story, 35,000-square-foot structural steel office project lead by Pence Construction is the first USRC Platinum-rated building in Oregon and is also in the process of LEED certification.

Streimer joined the collaboration in a design-assist role before taking on the full scope of mechanical and plumbing work. The installations by our team included large variable refrigerant flow systems, hydro kits, and radiant floor heating. Along the way, we worked with MPP Piping, a MWESB contractor out of Scio, OR, in addition to allocating 20% of our hours toward apprenticeships.

Oregon State University's North District Utility Plant is a 4,500-ton chilled water plant with the capacity to provide the campus with 8,000 gallons of chilled water every minute. This large-scale infrastructure also enables systems like active chilled beams and radiant panels instead of refrigeration for cooled air in neighboring buildings.

Joining the project in a design-assist role, our team led the full mechanical scope of work with support from our MWESB subcontractor MPP Piping on piping, fabrication, and installation. Among the massive systems implemented in this impressive facility were six cooling towers and three chillers. Expanded integration and greater efficiencies to come for OSU as building additions and improvements continue across campus.

Portland, OR  |  Completed Spring 2020

Our work on Portland's tallest building began during its construction in 1972. Recently, we optimized its performance as part of a complete remodel. Our team drove the mechanical and architectural sheet metal construction throughout the iconic 39-story tower and bridge to the 6-story exchange building.

Among the challenges we successfully navigated: moving materials with a single freight elevator, isolating HVAC systems from hazardous materials, and working around thousands of occupants.
